Macau economy punches way above its weight
Macau’s economy is set for a continued period of rapid growth over the next decade as Asia tops the charts in terms of revenue gained through gaming industries, but there is more to our little city-state than just casinos and hotels.
Macau is the Monaco of Asia. Although legally part of the Peoples Republic of China, this small little territory, just 29 kilometers squared and one of the most densely populated in the world, exists under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy of the Chinese government and therefore has its own internal legal system and political makeup. It is this which has enabled Macau, a tiny city-state with no natural resources, to develop one of the highest GDPs per capita in Asia, after Singapore. Read more

Although its population is primarily ethnic Chinese, Macau, because it was a Portuguese territory for so long, has a distinctly Mediterranean flavor. A languorous pace, balconied pastel buildings and open squares.
The most famous landmark is the Church of Sao Paulo. All that remains is the facade,the rest of the church was destroyed by fire in 1835, but it's worth climbing an imposing set of stairs to view the ruins up close, especially at night when you can see the lights of the city below.
