Cape Town - The Proteas won their first match at the ICC T20 Women's World Cup by beating one of the tournament favourites England by six wickets in Perth.
After they won the toss and elected to bowl, South Africa took regular wickets to restrict England to 123 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs with Ayobonga Khaka taking 3/25 in four overs.
She was well supported by captain Dane van Niekerk (2/20) and Marizanne Kapp (2/19).
Van Niekerk (46 off 51) and Kapp (38 off 33) then starred with the bat but with both falling by the 16th over, it was left to veteran Mignon du Preez (18*), playing in her 100th T20 international to guide the Proteas home.
