MACAO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of visitor arrivals in Macao dropped 15.6 percent month on month to 556,765 in January while representing a year-on-year decline of 80.5 percent, the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR)'s statistics agency said on Tuesday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that overnight visitors and same-day visitors totaled 268,947 and 287,818 respectively in January.
The average stay length of visitors went up by 0.4 day year on year to 1.6 days. The duration for overnight visitors rose by 0.7 day year on year to 3.0 days, whereas that for same-day visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 0.1 day.
In terms of the source market, the number of mainland visitors fell 76.7 percent year on year to 496,157 in January. Meanwhile, there were 50,379 visitors from the Hong Kong SAR and 10,212 from China's Taiwan.
Analyzed by means of entry, visitor arrivals by land totaled 518,916 in January, and 83.3 percent of them arriving through the Border Gate checkpoint. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totaled 23,930 and 13,919 respectively.
