MACAO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The Tourist Price Index (TPI) of Macao for the first quarter of 2021 went down by 15.16 percent year on year to 115.78, the special administrative region's statistics service said here on Wednesday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the decrease was on account of lower hotel room rates, reduced prices of local food products and falling airfares.
The price index of accommodation tumbled by 55.09 percent year on year. Price indices of transport and communications and food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco decreased 11.23 percent and 5.48 percent respectively, while the price index of miscellaneous goods recorded a growth of 2.33 percent.
In comparison with the fourth quarter of 2020, TPI for the first quarter of 2021 dropped by 2.05 percent. Price indices of accommodation and clothing and footwear declined by 14.89 percent and 5.72 percent respectively owing to lower hotel room rates and seasonal sale of winter clothing.
On the other hand, price indices of entertainment and cultural activities and restaurant services increased by 5.44 percent and 3.62 percent respectively.
