MACAO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Macao racer Charles Leong stormed to victory in Sunday's Macao Grand Prix, earning his second successive win at the presigious annual event around Macao's city streets.
Starting the race from pole position, Leong held onto his lead despite the best efforts of Andy Chang, and was never headed as he stormed to a lights-to-flag win at the notoriously fast and twisty Guia Circuit.
"I didn't have any mechanical failures, everything just went fine. It was perfect," said Leong, who becomes the 10th multiple winner of the Macao Grand Prix.
The Macao SAR government placed high hopes on the Grand Prix and other events such as a food festival to attract more tourists from the mainland to help boost the local economy.
Organizers said a total of 56,000 spectators attended the Grand Prix over the course of the weekend, representing a higher total than last year, according to Pun Weng Kun, president of the Macao SAR government's sports bureau.
