MACAO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A total of 71 meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) events were held in Macao in the third quarter of 2021, including 58 meetings, conferences and incentives, the special administrative region's (SAR) statistic service said on Friday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of meetings and conferences held in the third quarter dropped by 76 quarter-to-quarter as several events that had been scheduled for the third quarter were postponed or canceled amid a COVID-19 outbreak, with the number of participants and attendees falling by 28.9 percent to 226,000.
In comparison with the same quarter of last year, the number of MICE events increased by three while the number of participants and attendees dropped by 23.9 percent.
The number of participants in meetings, conferences and incentives leapt by 93.1 percent year-on-year to 7,035 in the third quarter. The average duration of the meetings, conferences and incentives extended by 0.3 day year on year to 1.0 day.
The number of exhibitions in the third quarter grew by three year-on-year to 13, whereas the number of attendees fell by 25.3 percent to 219,000. Exhibitions organized by non-government organizations went up by 1 to 11 and the number of attendees declined by 30.8 percent to 203,000.
The exhibitions in the third quarter attracted a total of 1,210 exhibitors and 930 professional visitors, with locals comprising 66.4 percent and 46.7 percent of the respective total, showed the report.
In accordance with information collected from 501 interviewed exhibitors, 98.0 percent of their receipts were generated from sales of goods, whereas 44.7 percent of their expenditure was mainly incurred on publicity and public relations.
In the first three quarters of 2021, a total of 286 MICE events were held, an increase of 55 from the same period last year. The total number of participants and attendees soared by 71.0 percent to 683,000.
