MACAO, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Lunar New Year market is a tradition of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). This year, the market was opened on Tuesday at the Tap Seac Square of Macao.

Over a score of stalls were set up with the theme of "tiger," selling food, festival gifts and flowers. Visitors can also enjoy fun games.

Schools across Macao have also organized activities for children to welcome the Lunar New Year.

At the kindergarten affiliated to the Kao Yip Middle School of Macao, children dressed up in traditional Chinese clothing for the catwalk and challenging dragon and lion dances. They also made glutinous rice balls, a traditional festival food.

The tourism office of the Macao SAR government said Macao will also stage parades in February to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The event, to be held on the third day and the 12th day of the Lunar New Year, will involve 14 floats and 22 mainland and local performance teams.
