Struggling Wolves sack coach Lage

03 Oct 2022, 10:49 GMT+10

LONDON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed on Sunday that they have sacked coach Bruno Lage after a poor start to the season.

The Portuguese coach lost his job in the wake of Saturday's 2-0 defeat away to West Ham United which saw his side drop into the relegation zone with just six points from their first eight games of the season.

Although they have only conceded nine goals this campaign, Wolves have struggled in front of goal and have scored just three goals since the start of the season.

Lage joined Wolves in June 2021 after Nuno Espiritu Santo left the club by mutual consent, and last season his side were close to a place in Europe before fading away.

However, despite making several significant signings over the summer, such as Goncalo Guedes, this season has been a different story and they have struggled to show any positive form.
