BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday congratulated Luis Montenegro on assuming his new term as prime minister of Portugal.
In his message, Li said that China and Portugal, guided by the spirit of mutual respect, mutual trust, openness and inclusiveness, have made progress in actively promoting exchanges and cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, green development, science, education and culture.
The two sides' experience in resolving the Macao issue through friendly consultation continues to offer valuable insights to the international community, Li said, adding that China and Portugal have supported each other and maintained close coordination in the international arena, becoming partners firmly committed to upholding multilateralism.
He said he is willing to work with Montenegro to take the 20th anniversary of the China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership as an opportunity to deepen political mutual trust and practical cooperation, and to inject positive energy into the steady and sound development of China-Europe relations.
